Due to the continuing challenges that both farmers and malting barley selectors are facing this year, the Barley Development Council is again extending the deadline for samples to be received for the 2004 Malting Barley Quality Competition (MBQC).

Farmers should carefully consider the risk of quality damage before pursuing on-farm drying of malting barley, says the Brewing and Malting Barley Research Institute, an organization representing malting and brewing companies.

The provincial winners of the Barley Development Council’s 2003 Malting Barley Quality Competition (MBQC) saw firsthand how the malting barley they grow is processed domestically and shipped to overseas customers, when they visited facilities near Saskatoon and in Vancouver from March 23 to 25, 2004.
